Extended Story
The clan of Hattori Hanzo has strived for generations, keeping his military tactics and fighting techniques in secret, but alive. Some of these techniques have been openly passed down to the members of the clan, bound by blood or just close friends. Emi is one of this descendants, albeit just from her mother's side. While at first she enjoyed her ninja training at a young age, she did aspire to other hobbies. In the little free time she had, she taught herself how to play guitar, and sometimes sneaked out of her home to meet up with her friends, who brought over CDs for inspiration. Over time, Emi, Cathy, Abby and Sally would form their own band with classic rock, heavy metal and traditional Japanese influences, known as "Spork". The name eventually changed to "Emiko and the Hattoris", "Ninja Exploding Dragon Blast", and eventually "Death-X".
Later into her life, her mother would find out. She disowned her, as she believed such music was "stupid". Emi was kicked out of her home, with the only roof above her head being Abby's RV. From that point on, she's been on the road across the United States, playing gigs to support themselves, and to truly be who they wanted to be. Emi never forgot her roots, but also wanted to be her own person.
Recently, Sally notifies Emi on Battle Craze. She says that taking a part of one of the world's largest televised and publicized martial arts events could bring attention to Death-X, and put it on the map as one of the greats in rock history. Emi decides to enter, with the moral support of her friends. She'll finally be recognized as one of the great pioneers of the Hattori clan, and hopefully, her mother can see her being happy.
"I'll make the spotlight come to me this time! Then, the whole world will see the Hattori clan once again! Oh! And Death-X of course."

Concept
Emi was one of the earliest Battle Craze characters, fitting the bill of the ninja. Her outfit was originally a gi with jean shorts, before earning some ninja pants, and eventually getting a design overhaul to breathe some life into the character and to find a new story. Her original story would involve her split between her samurai mother and her ninja father, indecisive to which side she should pick. Her original gimmick of stance switching would also reflect this, but balancing both styles was difficult.
Trivia
- Emi's surname and lineage is a nod to the samurai and military general Hattori Hanzo, as many other fictional characters share his name and influence too. Her birthdate, November 4th, is also the same as the date of his death.
- Emi's Side-S moveset was inspired by Cherry Hunter's from Streets of Rage 4, simply on account of the both of them being guitarists.
