Extended Story

Tom K.G. was an actor not doing too hot. He usually did generic action flicks such as The Cool Dudes and its sequels, The Cool Dudes: Cooler Dudes and The Cool Dudes: Not Even Close to the Coolest. Other roles include voice acting for various cartoons such as Skullhood: The Undead Superhero as Half N' Half, The Hilarious Realm of Maston Clobb as Vinny Vesuvius and a lot of uncredited roles dubbing animated pornographic features. His latest live-action appearance was a thriller horror movie called Black Glass, about an astronaut stuck on the Moon disconnected from Earth, waiting for help. So, what led to his failure and eventual death?

Simply put, he was an asshole. Making demands to his coworkers like he was their boss, and spouting the same jokes for weeks until some stood up to him complaining about their repetitiveness and eventually when they'd get out of date. He didn't care, he believed the world revolved around him, and that he can do anything because he was "born awesome" and because his parents told him this at a young age. Despite believing he was unbreakable, he would get killed for seemingly unknown reasons when beginning to film the sequel to Black Glass, called Black Glass: Termination. Doctors would find in his autopsy a black slime in his digestive tract would be the cause of his death, but ironically, found the slime to be harmless unless swallowed. Witnesses did say he drank a bottled water before he began gagging on the floor and his skin turning a freakish white.

Somehow, Tom would come back, still wearing the same costume as he did upon death, but he felt different. His head felt like a radio, overhearing the worlds of many different places he couldn't exactly pinpoint. It was like pure chaos in his head, outside of one voice that kept crawling into his brain. He managed to get a clearer signal of it. It told him that he granted him a body beyond mortal powers, and in exchanged, requested the HELL ENGINE from one Wanda Fleischer. Tom thought to himself, this feels like a setup, so, I'mma turn against this guy when he shows up and give him the ol' Shamalamadingdong twist! Perfect! Tom would do the voice's bidding, but in due time. Now is the time to cause chaos and revenge against the world for ignoring his performance.

"Feelin' lucky, world? Are you not entertained? For I am SHIFT, master of morphing!"

Concept

SHIFT was a character idea brought from another friend, originally as a silhouette style ghost. He would get a redesign more akin to an evil astronaut. His love for references comes from the indie fighting game Skullgirls' tendency to reference other media with its moves, characters and dialogue. Him being present for mirror matches was inspired by Battle Monsters' explanation of mirror matches, through an outside figure.

Trivia

  • SHIFT's birthdate, June 28th, is a reference to the bootleg, Mortal Kombat 6, 28 Peoples. SHIFT also references this game through his name, Tom K.G., to the character, Tom Cage, his film Black Glass to the character of the same name, and the sequel, Black Glass: Termination to the Terminator. From here also comes SHIFT's background as an actor.
